On 6 March 2026, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD) announced a key milestone in the implementation of CBAM: the first quarterly price of CBAM certificates will be published on 7 April 2026. This information has direct operational significance for all importers of goods covered by the mechanism.
What does this mean in practice?
CBAM certificates will be available for purchase from February 1, 2027. However, the prices of these certificates for individual quarters of 2026 will be published from April 2026. This will allow importers to:
- Plan your budget: knowing the price of certificates for a given quarter before the obligation to purchase them.
- Verify calculations: compare your own CBAM cost estimates with the official reference price.
- Prepare annual declaration: the first annual CBAM declaration (for 2026) must be submitted by 30 September 2027.

Certificate sales platform – Common Central Platform
Concurrently with the announcement of the price schedule, the European Commission announced an ongoing tender for the supplier of the Common Central Platform (CCP) system – a central platform that will handle the sale and redemption of CBAM certificates from 1 February 2027.
The deadline for submitting offers has passed March 20, 2026 at 12:00 CET. Launching the platform is a necessary condition for starting to sell certificates.
What does this mean for importers?
The launch of the CCP is a critical element of the entire CBAM system. Without this platform, purchasing certificates is impossible. The fact that the tender was announced in advance gives importers the certainty that the infrastructure will be ready before February 1, 2027 – the date from which certificate purchase becomes mandatory.
